Beverley Skurulis

My passion has always been art.  My first tool a piece of charcoal,  first canvas the footpath of my childhood home in Nedlands Perth Western Australia.  I attended Nedlands primary and Loretto Convent.  I didn’t  mind school  but was more interested in drawing on my books than looking inside them.  A self taught artist, I have loved every minute of a pastime which is forever heading in new directions.  Finding so much inspiration in the Pilbara, the Kimberley and its people.   In fact I find all of Australia inspirational.   We have it all from snow to desert, dry red sun baked earth to soft emerald green pasture.   More colours, shapes and textures than one can imagine and I want to record it all.   I am a seventh generation Australian  who’s  ancestors pioneered in South Australia, N.S.W. Tasmania,  and 130 years ago Coolgardie Western Australia.
I feel privileged that I have the ability to show to you my love of this great country through my art.  My life memories are shown in my art and my home, memories,  that should be familiar with a lot of Australians.  I grew up in the city on the Swan River, and in the wheat belt of W.A.
After marrying Harry Skurulis in 1975 the family moved to Karratha   For 30 years we traveled the Pilbara, Kimberley and Northern Queensland.   Commuting between our property in the Daintree Rain Forrest and our  home base at Karratha in the Pilbara of Western Australia.
We were avid gold prospectors from Halls Creek to the Great Sandy Desert and South to Meekatharra and Kalgoorlie.  My husband Harry had a passion for fishing so we spent many moons with the family at our shack in the Dampier archipelago deep sea fishing and diving.  We collected and restored early pioneer furniture from the cattle stations in the outback where we prospected.
I have been painting professionally for about 30 years.  Selling  mostly to the corporate sector and through galleries in the Kimberley, the Pilbara, Dunsborough and Perth Western Australia.
For 20 years I preferred to work in watercolour, recently painting with Oil paints and oil sticks on Belgium Linen.
I have had numerous solo and joint exhibitions and my work is represented locally and overseas.  I now own and work from the Latrobe Fine Art Gallery,  41a Gilbert St. Latrobe Tasmania,  7307
Beverley has such a history of this country as did her ancestors and she would like to share it with you, through her art.
